02

Connect to Your VPS

Linux VPS users can connect through SSH using Terminal, PowerShell, Windows Terminal or another compatible SSH client.

ssh username@YOUR_SERVER_IP
Replace the username and server IP with the details supplied for your VPS.
03

Update Your Server

Before installing applications, update your operating system packages to keep the server environment current.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
The command above is intended for Debian or Ubuntu systems. Package commands vary by operating system.
04

Create a Secure Server Environment

Use SSH keys where supported, create a dedicated administrative user and avoid unnecessary direct root access.

Use SSH keys
Protect credentials
Update applications
Review user access
SSH key authentication is commonly recommended for server administration because it avoids relying on password-only access.
05

Configure Your Firewall

Allow only the ports required by your services. For a typical Linux VPS, SSH, HTTP and HTTPS may be needed depending on your setup.

sudo ufw status sudo ufw allow OpenSSH sudo ufw allow 80/tcp sudo ufw allow 443/tcp
Check your SSH access rule before enabling or changing firewall rules to avoid locking yourself out of the server.
06

Install Your Software

Install only the applications and services required for your project. Your VPS can be configured for websites, APIs, databases, development environments and other legitimate workloads.

Monitor & Maintain Your VPS

A VPS requires ongoing administration. Monitor resource usage, review logs, apply security updates and keep backups appropriate for your project.
